For the LOVE Run 2021

For the LOVE Run is a virtual run hosted by Red Earth Running Company. It is the second virtual run in a series and coincides with spring. The event was hosted from May 30, 2021 - June 6, 2021.

ABOUT THE RACE

The For the LOVE Run is inspired by Zaagi’idiwin, a core value of Anishinaabe or Ojibwe  people. The core values of the Anishinaabe are also known as the Seven Grandfather Teachings. Similar to the values and guiding principles found in many Native communities, these teachings are gifts for living a good life. They are vital tools for individuals and communities to thrive and be in balance.

Zaagi’idiwin roughly translates to mutual love. This type of love is action. It requires us to first show love to ourselves so we can show love to other people or causes. We live this value by showing kindness, compassion, acceptance, and encouragement to ourselves and others. When we live this type of love, positivity circles back to us.  Love is an extraordinary teacher.

The For the LOVE Run is intentionally hosted in June, which is known to the Anishinaabe as Odemiini-giizis (Strawberry Moon). Strawberry Moon is the last full moon in spring. The name comes from the short season for harvesting strawberries, which have significant meaning in many Native communities. The strawberry is know as the heart berry. It represents healing, renewal, and restoration.
